ACS wins $41 million Hawaii Medicaid deal

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has won a $41 million contract to support Hawaii's Medicaid program.

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. of Dallas has won a five-year, $41 million contract from the state of Hawaii's Med-Quest Division to provide operational services to support the state's Medicaid program, the company announced June 4.

Hawaii has a unique Medicaid program partnership with the state of Arizona. Under the partnership, personnel from the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System provide system development and support to meet Hawaii's Medicaid program requirements.

Hawaii's new system, the Hawaii Prepaid Medicaid Management Information System, handles managed care processing for Hawaii's Med-Quest Division.

A new claims processing module is scheduled to be deployed this fall to support the state's Medicaid fee-for-services programs. The deployment is to coincide with the turnover of fiscal agent operations to ACS later this year. ACS plans to hire local staff to run the operation.

ACS serves as the Medicaid fiscal agent or facilities manager in 13 states and the District of Columbia. The company processes more than 250 million Medicaid claims each year through these contracts.

With the implementation of fiscal agent operations in Hawaii, Georgia and the district, ACS will soon process more than 350 million Medicaid claims annually.
