Texas agencies hand HP $90 million in new business

Hewlett-Packard Co. has won five hardware and services contracts over the past three months worth a total of about $90 million with Texas state agencies, the company announced May 8.


The new contracts include deals with the Department of Human Services, the Department of Transportation, Texas Lottery Commission and two other undisclosed agencies. The company said it would not reveal the value of the individual contracts at the request of the agencies.


HP of Palo Alto, Calif., won a six-year contract with the Department of Human Services through one of the company's key minority resellers, Texas Electronic Information and Computer Corp. of Houston. The department will use the equipment to support a new IT system required for the Texas Integrated Eligibility Redesign System, a project to provide case workers with an integrated, Web-browser system to deliver various services to state residents. The terms of the contract allow the agency to lease desktop personal computers, notebooks and file servers.


HP also won the Texas Department of Transportation contract through its reseller. The department will use HP equipment to update about 375 file, print and e-mail servers spread over more than 190 offices throughout the state with industry-standard ProLiant servers.


The Texas Lottery Commission is updating its server infrastructure with new ProLiant servers. Five years ago, the agency chose the ProLiant servers as the standard for the agency's IT architecture.
