Harris pursues Nexcom

Harris Corp. has put together a team that includes Computer Sciences Corp., Lockheed Martin Corp., Raytheon Co. and Rockwell Collins Inc. to pursue the Federal Aviation Administration's 10-year, $500 million Next Generation Air/Ground Communications program, called Nexcom.

Harris of Melbourne, Fla., also selected avionics company Avidyne Corp., Lincoln, Mass., for its team.

Nexcom will enable the FAA to multiply the use of its existing air traffic control air-to-ground communications channels, allowing additional air traffic control sectors and new runways to be added to meet the rapid growth requirements of the nation's air traffic system.
