Electronic Data Systems Corp. won a nine-month, $2.2 million contract to support the Pennsylvania State Police with its electronic business initiative that should put more officers on the street, the company announced May 20.
Under the contract, EDS of Plano, Texas, will provide infrastructure support, Web development, document management, hardware and software services to transform and automate a wide range of administrative processes as part of the state police's Headquarters E-Business Initiative Initial Suite project.
Through these services, EDS will develop and implement an intranet platform and Web site and create an electronic library and correspondence tracking system for information sharing.
As a result, time spent by personnel on administrative tasks will be reduced, and in some cases eliminated, allowing the state police to refocus personnel on core investigative and other law enforcement activities, according to EDS.
The e-business initiative grew out of EDS' work during the past two years with the Pennsylvania State Police to automate its Uniform Crime Reporting program. The application that EDS deployed, which uses Web-centric technologies, has enabled the state police to automate the collection and reporting of crime information.
