CSC lands $31 million order for INS system

Computer Sciences Corp. announced March 27 it won a task order from the General Services Administration's Federal Systems Integration and Management Center to provide the Immigration and Naturalization Service with a new system to verify the immigration status of non-U.S. citizens applying for federal, state and local benefits.

The seven-year, $31 million task order was awarded under the GSA Federal Technology Service's Millennia contract.

The task order calls for developing, implementing, maintaining and operating the Verification Information System for the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program. VIS will process verification requests from more than 50,000 federal, state and local agencies granting benefits to non-citizens and the employers hiring them.

The system also will verify the employment eligibility of new hires for employers participating in pilot programs.

VIS will be a multithreaded relational database management system, with Web and legacy interfaces enabled. It is intended to replace the Alien Status Verification Index mainframe-based system and encompass an existing server-based case management system.

CSC of El Segundo, Calif., is teaming with Alta Systems Inc., Fairfax, Va.; Integrated System Support Associates Inc., Rockville, Md.; NCS Pearson, Eden Prairie, Minn.; and SI International Inc., McLean, Va.
