M/A-Com Inc. will provide Oklahoma City with a trunked radio system.

M/A-Com Inc. has won a $24.5 million contract to provide Oklahoma City with a trunked radio system, the company announced Feb. 19.

M/A-Com of Lowell, Mass., will install its 800 MHz enhanced digital access communications system for the city over the next 28 months.

The new integrated, trunked radio system will be the backbone for the city's radio communications network, supporting 4,500 radios and providing interoperable communications for all departments. The system will replace the city's 35 separate conventional radio channels.

As part of the agreement, M/A-Com will provide, assemble and integrate the project's hardware and software and provide both user and administrator training.

The M/A-Com system will provide consistent and adequate signal strength to cover the city's extensive geographic area and ensure mobile and portable communications for police, fire and other officials, according to the company.
