EDS claims Kansas Medicaid contract

Find opportunities — and win them.

Electronic Data Systems Corp. has won a $160 million deal to deliver Web-based technology to the state's Medicaid program.

Electronic Data Systems Corp. has won a six-year, $160 million contract from the state of Kansas to deliver Web-based technology to the state's Medicaid program, the company announced Feb. 12.

EDS of Plano, Texas, will take responsibility for Kansas' legacy-based Medicaid management information system while simultaneously implementing the company's Web-based solution, known as interChange MMIS.

EDS also will handle managed care enrollment for both the children's health insurance and Medicaid programs, said company officials.

The Web-based system MMIS will make it possible for Kansas to process medical claims more efficiently. It also may increase the likelihood that health care professionals will participate in Medicaid programs where electronic processing has eliminated much of the associated paperwork, company officials said.

More than 200,000 Kansas residents receive services from about 19,000 health care providers that participate in the state's Medicaid program.

With the signing of the Kansas contract, EDS now provides Medicaid administrative support services to 18 states.
