Affiliated Computer Services Inc. won pharmacy benefit management services contracts in the states of Missouri and Washington, the company announced this month.
The three-year contract with Washington state is valued at $3.9 million, while the three-year contract with Missouri is valued at upward of $10 million, the company said.
ACS of Dallas will implement systems and procedures that will help the states control pharmacy costs for their Medicaid programs.
One of these procedures is to steer Medicaid patients toward equally effective, but less expensive drugs, the company said.
For example, the program in Washington is expected to save state taxpayers up to $20 million annually, the company said. The pharmacy benefit management services program is one of only two of its kind in the nation and is ACS' fastest growing markets, said Harvey Braswell, president of ACS' government services group.
ACS provides pharmacy benefit management services to Medicaid programs in a number of states, including Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, North Carolina and West Virginia.
ACS is a provider of business process and technology outsourcing solutions to commercial and government clients. The company has more than 30,000 employees and annual revenue of $2.1 billion.
