New BAE Systems unit will bring 1,000 jobs to Reston
BAE Systems North America will open a new systems integration unit in Reston, Va., next fall and add 1,000 new jobs at the facility over three years.
BAE Systems North America, the British defense and aerospace contractor, said Jan. 9 it will open a new systems integration unit in Reston, Va., next fall and add 1,000 new jobs at the facility over the ensuing three years.
The Reston operation will be a new business division for the Farnborough, England-based firm and will be located in a 135,000-square-foot office that is under construction.
The company's Rockville, Md.,-based North American division already has 4,500 of its 22,000 U.S. employees working in the Washington area, according to company spokesman John Measell. He said the firm has already started interviewing information systems and software design workers to staff the new facility.
The spokesman said the new unit will initially work on several of BAE's existing government contracts, but search for new business as well.
"It's an area we see expanding," Measell said.
