L.A. County taps Symantec for Internet security
Symantec Corp. will provide Los Angeles County with Internet security solutions and managed security services.
Symantec Corp. has signed an agreement to provide Los Angeles County with Internet security solutions and managed security services, the company announced Jan. 17.
Under the terms of the agreement, Los Angeles County will use Symantec antivirus solutions and managed security services to protect against malicious code at virus entry points, including desktop, server and gateway, and to protect the integrity of the county's systems and data.
The company declined to disclose the value of the agreement.
Security experts from Symantec Managed Security Services will provide the county with round-the-clock support to ensure protection against current and emerging threats, the company said.
The county's selection of Symantec was based on each product's ability to thwart security breaches as well as on the expertise made available through Symantec service and support professionals, according to the company.
Symantec has similar Internet security and managed security service agreements with the states of Florida, Idaho and South Dakota and provides similar services to 11 other states through resellers, the company said.
Symantec Managed Security Services delivers outsourced security intended to minimize an organization's investments in technology and internal resources while solving security problems and allowing enterprises to focus on their core business issues.
The company has about 3,800 employees and annual revenue of $853.6 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
