Professional services provider Resource Consultants Inc., Vienna, Va., won a $71.9 million contract with the U.S. Army's Recruiting Command to recruit citizens for military service, making it the first private company to undertake this task, RCI announced Jan. 23. If successful, the Army could outsource all of its recruitment.

For the test program, RCI will assume the duties of 10 military recruitment offices throughout the country. Following a congressional mandate to replace Army in-house recruiters with contractor-provided individuals, this program, if successful, will allow the Army to free up over 7,000 military personnel for other tasks.

According to the company, RCI recruiters will operate under the same rules and chain of command as in-house Army recruiting units.
"This contract represents a significant component of our growth strategy both within the US Army client sector and within our human strategies line of business," said RCI President George Troendle.
