SAIC Nets NASA, Agriculture Contracts

It's been a pretty good week for Science Applications International Corp.

The company announced Dec. 20 that it won a contract from NASA Langley Research Center to provide atmospheric science research and technology support services.


The contract, potentially worth more than $150 million, will support nearly 300 employees in Hampton, Va., and will last for five years. Services on the contract include software development to process atmospheric data from remote sensing instruments on satellites, the International Space Station and outfitted NASA aircraft.


The work involves processing, archiving and distributing Earth science data from the Atmospheric Sciences Data Center, one of several that NASA sponsors as part of the Earth Observing System Data and Information System.

SAIC also will develop and maintain NASA-sponsored Web sites, atmospheric modeling, algorithm development, analysis of scientific data sets, logistical support to international field missions and remote sensing technologies.


On the heels of the NASA announcement, the San Diego-based company said it also won an information technology support services contract from the Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency and Natural Resources Conservation Service. The contract is worth up to $175 million over five years.


Services under the contract include IT development, software maintenance and operational support of systems to meet the business and program needs of the two agencies.
