Websense Shines on Arizona Internet Software Deal

Websense Inc. has signed a contract estimated to be worth more than $1 million to provide the state of Arizona with employee Internet management software, the company announced Nov. 2.

Under the contract, Websense of San Diego will provide its Internet management solution, known as Websense Enterprise, to hundreds of state and local governments departments and agencies throughout the state.

The Arizona governments that subscribe to the Websense Enterprise software include Phoenix, Maricopa County and the Arizona School Facilities Board.

Websense has 350 city government and 75 federal agency customers. As more Arizona state government agencies subscribe to the software in the coming months, the contract could become one of the company's largest deployments to date, company officials said.

Websense Enterprise allows organizations to monitor, manage and report traffic flowing from internal networks to the Internet. This helps organizations limit inappropriate or time-wasting Internet material in the workplace, according to the company.

Cities using Websense Enterprise include Austin, Texas; Cincinnati; Miami; Newark, N.J.; Pittsburgh and San Jose, Calif., while federal agencies using it include the Centers for Disease Control, Census Bureau, Department of Defense, National Guard and Army.

Websense has 221 employees and had annual revenue of $17.4 million in fiscal 2000.
