Maximus Inc. has won a $19 million contract from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development to provide welfare-to-work services for Milwaukee County.
Maximus Inc. has won a two-year, $19 million contract from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development to provide welfare-to-work services for Milwaukee County.
Under the contract, Maximus will deliver employment and education services to Milwaukee County participants in the Wisconsin Works program.
Recipients enrolled in the Wisconsin Works program receive job counseling, job training, education and other support services from Maximus.
Because of its successful operation of the existing Wisconsin Works program, Maximus holds what is known as "right of first selection" to receive the state's next contract. The next contract runs from January 1, 2002, through December 31, 2003.
Maximus' performance on the existing contract was evaluated based on the number of job placements, retention of jobs at 30 and 180 days from placement, increased wages, health care benefits with placements and customer service surveys, the company said.
Arizona and Wisconsin are the only states in the nation with fully privatized welfare-to-work programs. Maximus provides services in support of both programs.
Maximus is a government services company that specializes in providing state and local governments with program management, information technology and consulting services.
Maximus has more than 4,700 employees and annual revenue of $399 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
