Unisys and Viisage Enter Security Alliance

Unisys Corp. and Viisage Technology Inc. have formed a strategic alliance to enhance personal identification solutions with facial recognition technology.

Unisys Corp. and Viisage Technology Inc. have formed a strategic alliance to enhance personal identification solutions with facial recognition technology, the companies announced Oct. 16.

The agreement authorizes Unisys of Blue Bell, Pa., to integrate face recognition technology developed by Viisage of Littleton, Mass., with its solutions for government, transportation, financial services and other markets.

The goal is to provide end-to-end solutions that expand client options for building accurate and reliable identification capabilities into their operations for better security, the companies said.

The alliance will cement complementary technologies and services.
Viisage has developed and implemented facial recognition applications for corrections, social services and law enforcement customers in the public sector.

Unisys has extensive experience deploying biometric and personal identification solutions since 1994 for national ID cards, government and military access, voter registration, social security and healthcare identification, driver's licenses and airline and airport security.

Kevin Curry, vice president and general manager of Unisys North America Public Sector, said that Unisys' existing and future security business would be strengthened by the addition of Viisage's facial recognition solutions.

Viisage has about 100 employees and annual revenue of $28 million, while Unisys company has more than 22,000 employees and annual revenue of $6.8 billion.
