Tennessee Taps Covansys for Vehicle Registration

Covansys Corp. has won a $14.2 million contract to implement an online motor vehicle titling and registration system for the state of Tennessee, the company announced Oct. 8.

Covansys of Farmington Hills, Mich., will construct a system that will give Tennessee drivers Internet access for registering and licensing their motor vehicles. The project will be carried out in two phases and will use Covansys' technology development centers in the United States and overseas.

The project is to be completed in December 2003, but citizens will be able to access the system starting in November 2002, Covansys said.

The new system will be designed to accommodate 6 million license plate renewals each year. It will serve all 95 Tennessee counties, giving agency users and county clerks greater capabilities when working with their customers.

Covansys is a technology services company specializing in Web-to-enterprise integration, industry specific solutions and strategic outsourcing. The company has provided solutions to more than 25 states in the areas of health and human services, tax and revenue and transportation.

Covansys has more than 5,100 employees and annual revenue of $420 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
