The Texas Department of Health has issued a request for information on behalf of the Texas and New Mexico Special Supplemental Nutrition Programs for Women, Infants and Children to vendors whose business is grocer point of sale activities and in-store automation systems. The procurement is expected to be released by the end of the year. The pilot evaluation is to determine costs, benefits, whether the system design and performance meets the states' requirements and the needs of WIC recipients, authorized grocers and the WIC central office. Both Texas and New Mexico plan to begin statewide rollout of the system immediately following this evaluation unless results warrant a delay.

The Georgia Division of Aging Services wants to integrate 12 databases of client and provider information with the existing state aging information management system. The procurement is expected to be released in the second quarter of 2002. The integrated system will streamline the entry process so older persons will receive timely assistance. Benefits will include improved quality of life for seniors as well as tax savings as more persons receive care in the community rather than requiring more expensive, institutional care.
