SAIC Lands Research Work

Science Applications International Corp. won a five-year, $1.2 billion contract to continue performing and supporting cancer and AIDS research for the National Cancer Institute.

The institute has the option of extending the contract for two more years, which would increase the value to $1.8 billion.

Under the contract, SAIC will perform research activities ? including basic, applied and developmental services and biopharmaceutical and state-of-the-art technical services ? at the National Cancer Institute's research and development center in Frederick, Md.

Support services include acquisition, property management, accounting, occupational health and safety, and human resources. Facilities maintenance and engineering services also will be provided by SAIC through a teaming agreement with Bechtel National Inc.
