SAIC Lands $1.2 Billion Cancer Institute Contract
Science Applications International Corp. has won a five-year deal to continue performing and supporting cancer and AIDS research for the National Cancer Institute.
Science Applications International Corp. has been awarded a five-year, $1.2 billion contract to continue performing and supporting cancer and AIDS research for the National Cancer Institute, the company announced Oct. 15.
The institute has the option of extending the contract for two more years, which would increase the value to $1.8 billion.
Under the terms of the cost-reimbursable, award-fee and performance-based contract, SAIC-Frederick Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of San Diego-based SAIC, will perform research activities ? including basic, applied and developmental services and biopharmaceutical and state-of-the-art technical services ? at the National Cancer Institute's research and development center in Frederick, Md.
Support services include acquisition, property management, accounting, occupational health and safety and human resources. Facilities maintenance and engineering services also will be provided by SAIC-Frederick through a teaming agreement with Bechtel National Inc.
SAIC has been the operations and technical support contractor at NCI in Frederick since it initially won the contract in 1995. The company employs about 1,400 people in that location.
