Sybase Inc. has won a $15.8 million contract to help create an integrated court case management system for Pennsylvania's Unified Judicial System, the company announced Oct. 29.

Under the contract, Sybase of Emeryville, Calif., will assist the state in the design, development and implementation on the Common Pleas Criminal Court Case Management Project.

Sybase will be assisted on the 40-month project by Ciber Inc. of Englewood, Colo. The project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2004.

The product solution will provide case management and financial accounting functions to support the Common Pleas Criminal Court Case Management System migration to statewide standards for forms, state statute fees, docket entries and case scheduling.

When the project is completed, 60 judicial districts will be connected in one database system, and criminal court systems throughout the state will be able to share information on dockets, warrants and defendants, the company said.

The Administrative Office of the Pennsylvania Courts previously automated the state's 550 minor courts and its three appellate courts as initial steps toward implementation of a statewide integrated court case management system.

Sybase, a provider of enterprise software solutions, has other integrated criminal justice and corrections system contracts in Colorado, Michigan and Ohio. The company has 4,960 employees and annual revenue of $960 million.
