General Dynamics in Race for Marine Corps Work

General Dynamics Corp. of Falls Church, Va., announced Oct. 29 it will lead a team to compete for Marine Corps ground combat operations centers. The program is worth about $220 million through 2008 if all options are exercised.


The mobile facilities will allow Marines worldwide to collect, process and disseminate tactical data. They will be the center of operations during all phases of expeditionary maneuver warfare and will support future tactical and combined force warfare command and control needs.


The request for proposals was released Oct. 23. Proposals are due Dec. 20. An award is expected April 1, 2002.


The General Dynamics team includes Brown International Corp. of Huntsville, Ala., and Ocean Systems Engineering Corp. of Oceanside, Calif. Brown International integrates tactical operation centers for fixed land-based systems and shipborne operations. OSEC provides tactical data systems and training support for Marine Corps operations.


General Dynamics' operations center experience includes wireless battlefield communication, fielding tactical communications networks, operation center facility design and the highest rated software engineering capability for a low-risk integrated solution, the company said.


General Dynamics is now under contract for the Tactical Data Network/Digital Tech Control program for the Marine Corps expeditionary units and is performing systems integration for the Extending Littoral Battlespace, Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration supporting the Office of Naval Research for the Navy and Marine Corps.

General Dynamics is also performing software integration, intercom switching and airspace integration for Common Aviation Command and Control Systems for Marine Corps aviation.
