BlueStar Shines for N.C. Enterprise Services

BlueStar Solutions Inc. has won a three-year, $15 million contract from the North Carolina Department of Transportation to host and manage an SAP environment, the company announced Oct. 23.

BlueStar Solutions of Cupertino, Calif., will be responsible for hardware, network control, operating systems and security and customer support. The hardware delivery includes procurement of the initial hardware and additional hardware to accommodate growth, the company said.

BlueStar Solutions will provide services to about 4,000 employees initially on SAP industry solutions for the public-sector software programs. SAP America of Newtown Square, Pa., makes enterprise resource planning software that allows government to streamline functions such as accounting, budgeting, payroll, personnel and purchasing.

While the contract is specifically aimed at supporting North Carolina's Department of Transportation, the state intends to make the services available to all its agencies, including community colleges, institutions, counties, municipalities, public schools and other local entities.
