SI Telecom to Re-Engineer Army Wireless Spectrum

SI International Telecom Corp. of Colorado Springs, Colo., has won a task order to provide technical support to the Army Communications Electronic Services Office Business Process for Spectrum Management, the company announced Sept. 12.


The Communications Electronic Services Office provides support to the Army spectrum manager and manages and assigns radio frequency resources for the Army. It manages the Army Spectrum Certification Program for new Army systems and certifies spectrum-dependent wireless systems before funding can be obligated for the systems.


SI Telecom's Washington operation will lead work on the task order, which order is an initial phase of a multiyear contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.


Under the terms of the task order, SI Telecom will review the Army internal processes for frequency assignment and spectrum certifications, conduct an assessment to determine where improvements may be required and recommend measures to improve internal Army Spectrum Management operations.


"The U.S. Army, and other federal agencies, has to manage its expanding wireless operations while facing likely reduced spectrum availability. SI Telecom ... will assign a multidisciplinary team of our most senior wireless and business process re-engineering experts to execute this project," said Robert Sanford, president of the privately held telecommunications infrastructure company.
