TRW Lands Missile Contract

TRW Inc. of Cleveland won a seven-year, $564 million follow-on contract to develop and deliver Battle Management Command, Control and Communications products for the Ground-based Midcourse Defense Segment program, formerly the National Missile Defense program. The contract was awarded by the prime contractor, the Boeing Co. of Seattle.

Under the new contract, TRW will provide the battle management command and control system, the in-flight interceptor communications system, the communications node equipment, the network and system manager and the battle management test exerciser.

Boeing will provide the long-haul communications portion of the battle management system. TRW also will continue developing, integrating and testing battle management products for future deployment.

The battle management system is considered the brains of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense Segment system. It provides data such as battle management displays and situational awareness information that enable commanders to plan, select and adjust integrated systems to help stop incoming ballistic missiles.
