Vredenburg Awarded FOIA Work

Find opportunities — and win them.

Vredenburg has won a contract by the Securities and Exchange Commission to build and implement a solution to handle the agency's Freedom of Information Act requests electronically.

Vredenburg, a Reston, Va., IT solutions provider, has been awarded a contract by the Securities and Exchange Commission to build and implement a solution to handle the agency's Freedom of Information Act requests electronically, the company announced July 23.

Financial terms for the contract, which runs through November, were not disclosed.

Vredenburg will tailor its off-the-shelf VeFOIA product suite to match the SEC's work-flow requirements. Before the contract award, the company was involved in a 10-user system pilot program to identify and develop the specifications and requirements necessary to meet the SEC's electronic FOIA needs.

"We look forward to working with the SEC to implement a solution that will address their specific business rules and process flows," said Larry Den, senior vice president of information technology.

Once the VeFOIA solution is implemented, it will roll out to support 85 users nationwide, including the SEC's Washington office and operation centers in Northern Virginia.

The VeFOIA solution is based on an open architecture that supports industry standard operating systems, database connectivity, image file management and work flow.

This allows agencies to save money by integrating existing equipment, such as scanners and other hardware and licensed software, the company said.

The VeFOIA solution is also database independent, so it can be linked to existing data repositories. In addition, at the agency's option, citizens can fill out FOIA request forms on the agency's Web site and check on the status of their requests.
