Anteon Acquires Division of SIGCOM

Anteon Corp. announced July 23 it has acquired the training systems division of SIGCOM Inc. of Greensboro, N.C. The purchase price was not released.

It is Anteon's fifth acquisition over the past four years, said Joseph Kampf, the president and chief executive officer of the Fairfax, Va. company.


SIGCOM's training systems division provides sophisticated simulation systems used by military and governmental organizations around the world, including the Army, Navy Seals, FBI, SWAT teams, British Special Forces and NATO troops.

The division is a leader in design, development and integration of military operations on urban terrain sites. These sites incorporate components that generate realistic battlefield scenarios as they would appear in urban environments. There is a site at Fort Polk, La., developed by the SIGCOM, which is considered the most sophisticated training facility of its type in use today.

The division has been awarded contracts recently, valued at more than $25 million, to provide seven new urban training facilities over the next two years.


"There is an increasing need for defense agencies to use simulation and mock testing facilities as a way to provide more cost effective training," Kampf said. "We have significantly enhanced Anteon's capability to support these efforts, including those involving fully integrated range and instrumentation systems."


The new division will be integrated into Anteon's Information Systems group, headed by Ken Guest.
