TRW Inc. plans to acquire Network Six Inc. for $5.3 million as part of a strategy to expand its human services expertise in the state and local government market, the company said June 7.

If the shareholders of Network Six of Warwick, R.I., approve the cash deal, then it would close later this year, said TRW of Cleveland.

TRW said the acquisition would help expand its human services business in the New England area. Network Six manages temporary assistance for needy families, child support, child care and the child welfare system for Rhode Island and the child welfare system for Maine.

TRW provides information technology systems for human services in 23 states. The company also provides health care information systems to state and local governments and builds integrated public safety communication and transportation centers for police, fire, medical dispatch and emergency services.

Network Six has about 100 employees and had sales of $11 million in fiscal 2000. TRW has 103,000 employees and had sales of $17.2 billion in fiscal 2000, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
