SAS Institute Inc. and BTG Inc. have formed a strategic alliance to deliver end-to-end business intelligence technology and consulting services to intelligence agencies, federal, state and local governments and primary and secondary schools, the companies announced June 14.

The two companies will provide clients with data warehousing, data mining and decision-support solutions.

BTG of Fairfax, Va., is an information and technical services firm that provides computer-based solutions for government and commercial clients. SAS of Cary, N.C., is an e-intelligence software and services provider, enabling its customers to turn raw data, including the vast quantity generated by e-business, into usable knowledge.

Software from the privately held SAS is used at more than 35,000 business, government and university sites in 110 countries.

Through the partnership, SAS seeks to increase its presence in all of the alliance markets, especially intelligence, according to the company. Under the terms of the agreement, BTG will be the exclusive integrator of SAS solutions to the intelligence community for new business.

BTG specializes in information and network security and has provided intelligence systems and services to the federal government for nearly 20 years.

BTG, through its Technology in Schools practice, expects to expand its presence in the primary and secondary education market by working with SAS to identify and create technology solutions to promote academic excellence in America's public schools, BTG said.

"We are excited about the new opportunities this partnership brings to SAS Public Sector," said Jeff Babcock, vice president of SAS public-sector sales. "With BTG's strong presence in the intelligence market and SAS' expertise in data warehousing and data mining, we are set to combine our respective knowledge and deliver stable, proven solutions to our prospective clients."

SAS and BTG are in the process of jointly implementing SAS software and services for various clients.
