CSC Wins $103 Million Australian Outsourcing Deal

A consortium led by Computer Sciences Corp. has won a five-year, $103 million outsourcing contract for information technology services to the Northern Territory Government in Australia.

A consortium led by Computer Sciences Corp. has won a five-year, $103 million outsourcing contract for information technology services to the Northern Territory Government in Australia, CSC announced June 21.

Under the contract, the CSC-led team will provide a standardized operating platform for 11,000 desktop computers for 33 government agencies throughout the Northern Territory. The consortium comprises 14 local and international companies.

The CSC contract is the largest of the $260 million worth of IT outsourcing packages released by the Northern Territory Government. It is part of its overall strategy to foster growth in the local IT industry, said Peter Adamson, the Northern Territory's minister for corporate and information services.

Because of the remote locations of many government agencies, the participation of the local Northern Territory companies is crucial to the success of the project, said George Bell, managing director of CSC's operations in Australia.

The Northern Territory is a self-governing entity occupying the central section of the northern part of the continent. It has a population of about 195,000.

CSC, located in El Segundo, Calif., has about 68,000 employees worldwide and had sales of $10.5 billion in fiscal 2000.
