Maximus to Maximize Medicaid Funds for San Diego Schools

The San Diego Unified School District announced April 27 it awarded Maximus Inc. a three-year contract for software and consulting services to maximize its entitlement of federal Medicaid funds.

Maximus will be paid on a contingency fee basis for the amount of new Medicaid revenue its efforts produce for the school district. The firm expects to obtain at least $13 million in additional revenue for San Diego schools over the course of the contract.

San Diego joins nearly 1,400 other school districts across the country using Maximus systems and services to increase their Medicaid revenue levels. The San Diego Unified School District is the eighth largest urban district in the country, with nearly 142,000 students.

"The award by the San Diego Unified School District confirms Maximus' competitiveness providing revenue enhancement systems and services to school districts," said David Mastran, chief executive officer with the Reston, Va., company. "This is a rapidly growing area of business for Maximus."

Maximus will provide a version of its MedClass claims documentation and processing software to the school district to improve fee-for-service billing to Medicaid for health-related services provided through San Diego schools. The firm is also revising the methods used to document claims for Medicaid administrative activities performed by the schools.

The company also will provide consulting services to enhance Medicaid revenue, including service reporting process improvement, school staff and service provider training, and services to increase the proportion of students enrolled in the Medicaid program.
