CDC Releases RFP for Major IT Contract

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a request for proposal April 10 for information systems development and microcomputer support services.

Industry analysts estimate the contract, which has one base year and up to six one-year options, is worth about $430 million. The task order contract will be awarded to multiple vendors, who will then compete for work under the contract.

The core work currently is covered in several existing contracts, including one held by TRW Inc., Cleveland, worth about $243 million and due to expire in September. The new CDC contract is being solicited as a separate contract and is not considered a direct recompete of any existing work.

The RFP calls for a variety of programming and support services for network server technologies, information systems technologies and computing platforms.

The project also requires prospective contractors to perform requirements analyses, design and develop new systems, implement information assurance and information systems security, train users in both CDC-developed and commercial applications, and maintain systems integration, data conversion and data communications via networking and telecommunications between disparate systems and scattered geographic locations.

Responses to the RFP are due by June 11.
