BTG to Acquire Research Planning Inc.

BTG Inc., Fairfax, Va., has acquired Research Planning Inc., Falls Church, Va., for $9 million in cash.

BTG is an information systems and technical services company, and Research Planning provides high-level support services to a variety of Defense Department and other government clients.

More than 90 percent of Research Planning's employees hold security clearances, which helped make the company an attractive acquisition target for BTG, said Ed Bersoff, BTG president and chief executive officer.

Research Planning provides services in defense programs, emergency management and range technology and base support to customers in Department of Defense and federal civilian agencies, state governments and commercial firms.

"RPI is a particularly good fit for BTG," Bersoff said. "Its focus has been on providing consistent, superior, profitable performance, emphasizing quality and innovation to its customers."

The two companies serve many of the same customers, including the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the U.S. Special Operations Command, the Joint Forces Command and the Department of Justice. RPI also expands BTG's customer base with its work for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other agencies such as the departments of State, Energy and Health and Human Services.

Resource Planning has about 400 employees, mostly in the Washington area, but it also has others in China Lake, Calif., the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
