Covansys Puts Vehicle Registration Online in Kentucky

Covansys Inc. of Farmington Hills, Mich., has entered the construction phase of an online vehicle registration and licensing service for motor vehicles in Kentucky.

Covansys completed the design phase of the Kentucky Vehicle Information System and is now in the process of delivering the actual solution, said Convansys officials March 12.

The contract is valued at $9.2 million, said Kentucky officials.

The project, which was awarded June 2000, is scheduled for completion in 2002. But citizens will be able to access the information starting in June 2001, said state and company officials.

"The new system uses Web-enabled technologies that completely replace Kentucky's legacy system and is not just a Web front end," said Rob Ellison, Convansys' KVIS project manager.

Ellison said the online motor vehicle system Covansys is developing for Kentucky can be transferred to other states.

Kentucky, which has a population of more than four million, registers about six million boats and vehicles annually.

The new system will be placed in all 120 of Kentucky's county clerk offices, said Kentucky officials.

Covansys also has state projects in Arizona, California, Idaho, Illinois, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio and Wyoming, said company officials.

Covansys, formerly Complete Business Solutions Inc., has 5,000 employees and had revenue of $419 million in fiscal 2000.
