Atvantec Acquires TechLaw Automation Partners

Atvantec, a provider of network and systems integration solutions headquartered in Philadelphia, has acquired TechLaw Automation Partners Inc., the commercial IT subsidiary of TechLaw Inc. of Chantilly, Va. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The purchase positions Atvantec to become the leading provider of information technology solutions and services to the legal, corporate and government communities, company officials said. Atvantec is a subsidiary of Global Management Systems Inc., Bethesda, Md.

"This merger marks another major milestone in our strategic plan to diversify through continued expansion into commercial markets and geographic expansion to serve Fortune 1000 customers on a national scale,Ó said Hilton Augustine Jr., chairman of the board and chief executive officer of GMSI.

TechLaw Automation Partners is one of the nation's largest consulting and systems integration firms focusing on the government and commercial legal market. Atvantec offers solutions for legal practices seeking to increase productivity by automating work at the attorney's desktop. Its products include iCreate, a proprietary word-processing tool for legal documents, and Unimation, an information management system designed for knowledge-intensive, paperless environments.

Atvantec will offer consulting and automation services for the legal services industries, including strategic technology planning, system design, hardware and software selection and procurement, system integration, installation, implementation, training and maintenance.

GMSI acquired CAM Communications, a Fairfax, Va., data management and networking solutions provider, in July 1998. In July 2000, the company acquired ACS Legal Solutions Inc. of Philadelphia, a provider of document management application solutions.
