ACS Wins Medicaid Work

ACS Inc. of Dallas announced today that its state and local government unit was awarded a five-year, $41 million contract with the District of Columbia, under which ACS will modify the city's Medicaid management information system and operate the system's fiscal functions.

ACS operates eight Medicaid programs, through which it processes more than 200 million health claims worth billions of dollars annually.

ACS will supplement Washington's base system with components such as a client-server drug rebate analysis and management system and productivity improvement tools, including a document imaging and a laser disk system that will allow workers to access all reports online at their desks.

"We anticipate that the improvements made possible by this new system will ensure that we have the capacity to manage our data effectively and will ultimately increase our responsiveness to the needs of our recipients, providers and residents of the District of Columbia," said Herbert Weldon Jr., senior deputy director for health care finance in the city's Department of Health.
