VSE Buys Tech Business From Group Decision Support Systems

VSE Corp. of Alexandria, Va., has acquired the collaborative technologies and environments business of Washington-based Group Decision Support Systems Inc., VSE announced Jan. 5.

The acquisition will be merged into VSE's telecommunications technologies division. Terms of the deal were not released.


"We bought the business that physically builds out collaborative technology centers," said Tom Stallone, the TTD division manager. A center, or "collaboratory," as Stallone referred to it, is a problem-solving room where a number of people can physically get together, each on his or her own computer, and use Internet-based software to seek solutions as a group.



Stallone said that Group Decision Support Systems has built 23 such centers, with a prospective client list of more than 24 others.



"This important acquisition continues our strategy to support customers with effective knowledge management and information technology solutions," said Donald Ervine, VSE's chairman and chief executive officer. "Our new telecommunications technologies division markets VSE's growing capability to provide customers with the latest products, services and support in network, multimedia and audiovisual technology."



VSE reported revenue of $93 million and earnings of $1.3 million for the nine months ended Sept. 30.
