Unisys Wins Minnesota Voter Registration Work

Unisys Corp. of Blue Bell, Pa. has won a $1.2 million contract to provide a statewide, centralized voter registration system for Minnesota.The contract between Unisys and the Minnesota Secretary of State's Elections Division was signed in December. State officials announced the value of the award Jan. 17.Unisys will provide software and services to replace the current voter registration system, which maintains a database of individuals registered to vote in Minnesota. Minnesota's voter registration also assists in election administration and provides the backbone for related functions, such as election night reporting and absentee voting. Unisys also has partnered with the Minnesota Secretary of State to test an electronic voting system, said Unisys officials. The test consisted of having state caucuses register their votes with the Secretary of State using the Internet. As votes were collected and tallied, results were continuously updated and made available via the Web.Voters in Minnesota's 87 counties cast their votes using paper ballots, according to state officials. In addition to Minnesota, Unisys has implemented electronic voting systems for Brazil, Costa Rica and Rome.
