Maximus Receives Contract Extension for Florida Social Programs

Maximus Inc. won a one-year, $1.7 million contract extension to provide support to the state of Florida's welfare, child support and food stamp programs, the company announced Jan. 4.

Maximus of McLean, Va., has been working with Unisys Corp. of Blue Bell, Pa., on the contract to provide user acceptance testing and system maintenance, said Maximus officials.

For its continuing work on the project, Maximus has received the Davis Productivity Award. The award is part of a privately funded program in Florida established to recognize state government projects that increase productivity and promote innovation.

The award recognizes contributions made by Maximus that improve the delivery of state government services and reduce spending on the part of agencies involved.

The contract extension was effective Oct. 1, 2000, according to Maximus. The original contract was awarded in 1996 to Technology Management Resources, which was acquired by Maximus last year.

The experience on this project and others is transforming Maximus into "a major player in large government systems work," said David Mastran, Maximus' chief executive officer.

Maximus has provided contract support to more than 60 statewide human service information technology and systems consulting projects since it was founded 25 years ago.

Maximus had more than 4,300 employees and sales of about $399 million in 2000, according to company officials.
