Air Force to Give $352 Million Contract to CSC, TECOM Joint Venture

Lackland 21st Century Services Consolidated will receive an Air Force contract potentially worth $352 million over five years to provide a variety of support and training services to Texas' Lackland Air Force Base, the company reported Dec. 14.


The firm is a joint venture of Computer Sciences Corp. of El Segundo, Calif., Del-Jen Inc. of Rolling Hills Estates, Calif., and TECOM Inc. of Austin, Texas.


The company will provide management and support services for the Air Force base and support the 37th training wing in meeting the education and training needs of Air Force and foreign military student personnel.


Lackland 21st Century and its subcontractors will employ about 1,000 people at the base. The workers will include current Lackland and Kelly Air Force Base civilian employees and new civilian hires from the San Antonio area.


The contract award comes after an appeals process that began after Lackland 21st Century was tentatively awarded the contract in August. A group of civilian employees at the base appealed the decision and submitted their own bid, and the tentative award was repealed.


Lackland 21st Century protested the decision with the General Accounting Office, and after an investigation, "Air Force authorities determined the original decision to award the contract [to Lackland 21st Century] was correct," said Air Force spokesman Dave Smith.


"We are gratified by the confidence the Air Force has placed in L21stCSC to serve its base support needs at Lackland," said Tom Robinson, president of CSC's Defense Group. "CSC and our joint venture partners provide the Air Force with an unmatched combination of expertise and knowledge that will produce the results the client requires."
