SAS, Veritect Team for Security Offering

Software firm SAS, a provider of e-intelligence and data warehousing products, announced Oct. 30 it has entered into a multimillion-dollar strategic partnership with Veritect, a network security company, to offer an information security solution that will help organizations protect resources and manage their network environments.



Under the agreement, the companies will build upon each other's expertise in intrusion detection, creating an array of information security services that will be the first of their kind to combat a broad range of cyberattacks.



"Our combined security solution will reduce the threat felt by so many organizations today," said Andre Boisvert, president and chief operating officer of SAS.



SAS of Cary, N.C., offers more than 24 years of experience in analytics and decision-support systems, including detection of offline security breaches. Veritect of Reston, Va., combines 25 years of inherited network-management security experience along with an extensive databases of known threats and vulnerabilities in the information security world.



Because both companies have independent offerings for the security market, SAS and Veritect will combine tools and services that build upon their individual strengths. The goal is to intercept the sophisticated, expert intruder who uses probing and attack methods designed to circumvent normal security controls and goes undetected.



Veritect plans to use SAS' data-mining capability for a system that analyzes large amounts of data gathered by the security and network-monitoring devices that reside in a company's information system.
