Anteon, Others Win Coast Guard Work

OCT. 9 ? Drug smugglers will have something new to worry about when Anteon Corp. of Fairfax, Va., finishes delivering the latest technology in drug interdiction to the Coast Guard.


Anteon announced Oct. 9 that its Analysis and Technology subsidiary has been awarded a multimillion dollar contract by the Coast Guard for a wide array of research and development technical support services.


The indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity, multiple-award contract has a potential value of $43.8 million over five years, according to Anteon.


Other contracts were awarded to New York-based John J. McMullan Associates Inc., a ship design and engineering firm, and Battelle Memorial Institute, a research and development firm in Columbus, Ohio. The three companies will compete for work under the contract.


Anteon's work will be performed at the Coast Guard Research and Development Center in Groton, Conn. Anteon's project will include helping the Coast Guard develop non-lethal technologies for stopping drug smugglers, providing new equipment and technology to detect narcotics, and developing research methods to stop the introduction and spread of non-indigenous marine species and aquatic nuisances.


Additional work by Anteon includes sensor technologies; decision support, modeling and simulation; and various other software development projects.

The Coast Guard R&D Center has tapped Anteon for technology work since 1979.
