by Gail Repsher EmerySalary.com is undertaking a survey of compensation in 270 e-business and information technology jobs across 15 industries in Massachusetts, a technology hub.IT job titles have changed so quickly in both e-business and traditional firms that reliable compensation data has been unavailable, according to Salary.com, a Wellesley, Mass.-based Web site. To solve the problem, the company is including a wide variety of businesses and new job titles, such as director of e-marketing, top creative executive and community leader.Massachusetts employers may participate in the survey at www.salary.com through Oct. 12. The report will be available in November.XXXSPLITXXX-Internet companies are starting to act more like traditional businesses in their pay practices, according to a new study by Pricewaterhouse Coopers' Unifi Network.The Internet Compensation Survey 2000, released late last month, found that online companies increased top executives' cash compensation packages more than 13 percent over last year. At the same time, online companies are more carefully granting equity to employees across the board, the survey found.The survey also found that Internet companies have increasingly adopted short-term incentives and bonus plans tied to traditional performance metrics such as increased revenue or near profitability."These results evidence a continuing maturation process by Internet companies that has them acting and feeling more like traditional brick-and-mortar firms," said Edward J. Speidel, a director in Unifi's executive compensation practice.XXXSPLITXXX-IBM Corp.'s Global Services division and Synhrgy HR Technologies Inc. recently announced a marketing and technology agreement to provide human resource information management and outsourcing solutions to large employers.The partnership combines IBM's Employee Service Information Technology, a platform that supports organizations with systems integration, data hosting and data service center capabilities, with Synhrgy's Web applications, service center support and consulting services. IBM Global Services, based in Somers, N.Y., will take a minority stake in Houston-based Synhrgy. Two executives from IBM Global Services will take management jobs at Synhrgy.XXXSPLITXXX-Business network Work.com recently unveiled a Web site offering business news, information and services aimed at helping professionals manage their work lives more effectively. Based in Redwood City, Calif., the site integrates content from dowjones.com and excite.com's business channel, including industry and market news. Work.com is a partnership of Excite@Home, Dow Jones & Co. and Work.com Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Don Hutchison.
