Orkand Gets a Slice of VANITS Pie

AUG. 21 ? Orkand Corp. of Falls Church, Va., has joined a slew of other companies in winning a piece of the Transportation Department's $950 million VANITS contract.


The Value Added Niche Information Technology Services contract was awarded by the Transportation Administrative Service Center and will be used to by the agency to acquire a wide range of IT services such as business intelligence, electronic commerce, e-mail and messaging, enterprise resource process services and remote monitoring of systems.


Orkand won awards in two functional areas of the contract: systems transition, migration and remediation services and in the operational maintenance support area.


"While we have consistently performed mission-critical work for several departments within the federal government throughout our 30-year history, this contract award represents our entrance to the DoT environment," said Donald Orkand, chief executive of the company.


Orkand has a strong presence at the Labor and State departments.


VANITS is a government-wide award contract, so it can be used by any agency. The contract is structured to provide fast access to specialized IT services.


Other companies winning awards include Advanced Technology Systems Inc., Booz, Allen & Hamilton Inc., Computer Sciences Corp., DynCorp., Electronic Data Systems Corp., JIL Information Systems Inc., IBM Corp., Lockheed Martin Corp., ManTech Inc., PricewaterhouseCoopers and Science Applications International Corp.
