The Illinois Department of Public Aid plans to implement an automated fingerprint information system with digitized photo identification capabilities for welfare recipients. The solicitation for the project, called the Automated Identification and Matching System, is expected to be released in August or September.

Printrak International Inc. implemented a pilot system, which has been installed in three public aid local offices and a central processing office. The pilot determined that fingerprint and photo identification technology is cost-effective for preventing fraud in Aid to Families with Dependent Children. The complete system will be implemented in more than 130 offices statewide.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment will contract with a vendor for the implementation and management of a new, statewide, automated system for its Women, Infants and Children program. The solicitation is expected to be released in September or October.

With the new system, the Department of Health and Environment hopes to provide a uniform automated food delivery, financial management and statistical reporting system for program planning and management. The goal is to provide timely and efficient services to Women, Infants and Children participants throughout Kansas.

The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services plans to contract with a vendor for the implementation of an Integrated Taxpayer Administration System (ITAS). The solicitation is expected to be released in early August.

This project will involve the design and implementation of ITAS and follows a consulting contract performed by Computer Sciences Corp. The revenue department plans to use the new system primarily for case management to track taxpayers through the use of a single client ID-based database.

The Indiana Workforce Development Department will procure services for the review of all aspects of the state's unemployment insurance systems. The solicitation is expected to be released in December.

The department will contract with a qualified vendor to explore options to better manage benefit payments and tax collection for unemployment insurance. Technology areas to be explored include interactive voice response technology to replace the existing method of entering the information at each local office and sending the information via voucher, along with the central mainframe and scanning hardware and services.
