JULY 10 ? PlanetGov.com has tapped the NIC Commerce division of the National Information Consortium Inc. to provide the electronic procurement system for its government Web site.
PlanetGov of Chantilly, Va., is a Web site where vendors can reach government customers to sell products and services. The NIC Commerce e-procurement solution will power the PlanetGov site to enable Web-based transactions online.
PlanetGov provides content and community to online users. With NIC Commerce, the site is adding a procurement piece as well.
"We reviewed several e-commerce solutions providers, and selected NIC Commerce based on their understanding of the government market segment," said Steve Baldwin, chief executive of PlanetGov. "NIC Commerce solutions are built with the public sector in mind, and we have seen how their solutions increase government efficiency and reduce cost."
The PlanetGov site will be able create, process and follow up procurement requests, quotes and orders from any or all contracts within the control of PlanetGov. Customers will have access to services such as a consolidated vendor database, online shopping, use of purchase cards, order tracking and life-cycle management.
