JULY 7 ? GlobalNet Federal of Herndon, Va., has purchased Applitech Inc., also of Herndon and a provider of professional services, such as logistics and computer-based training.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed by GlobalNet Federal, which is picking up about $2 million in annual revenue. GlobalNet Federal was launched in April and is a division of GlobalNet Technologies Inc. of McLean, Va., a maker of electronic commerce solutions.
Tom Shea, chief executive of Applitech, was named president of GlobalNet Federal.
George Filippides, chairman and CEO of GlobalNet Technologies Inc., said he is looking for more government-related acquisitions. Most of the company's government business is defense-related.
"This is a strategic initial acquisition," he said. "It brings us top-notch people and technology that will help us grow rapidly and bring a new generation of less costly software and Internet capabilities to the federal government."
Applitech's strength is in applying new technologies to very specific needs, Shea said, such as "using computer software tools to develop multimedia training and documentation for defense contractors, and then delivering that anytime, anywhere over the Internet."
"As part of GlobalNet Federal, we'll be able to expand our manpower and revenue by bringing on new customers in areas where we're already the leaders, such as distance learning and high-tech publications," Shea said.
