CSC-led Team Seeks $5 Billion NSA Contract

JUNE 23 ? Computer Sciences Corp. is fielding a team that includes several other major government information technology players to pursue the National Security Agency's large outsourcing contract called Groundbreaker.


CSC has signed up Andersen Consulting of Chicago, General Dynamics Corp. of Falls Church, Va., Keane Inc. of Boston, Logicon Inc. of Herndon, Va., and TRW Inc. of Cleveland. Bell Atlantic Corp. of New York also is part of the team through a relationship with General Dynamics.


The Groundbreaker contract is expected to be worth $5 billion over 10 years. NSA is planning to outsource its non-mission critical information technology infrastructure such as distributed computing, telephony, networks and enterprise/security management.


Other teams chasing the contract include AT&T Corp. of Basking Ridge, N.J., which has signed up IBM Corp. of Armonk, N.Y.; and OAO Corp. of Greenbelt, Md., which has tapped Raytheon Co. of Lexington, Mass.


"The NSA is focused on establishing a true government-industry partnership," said Thomas Robinson, president of CSC's Defense Group. "We picked our team carefully to achieve this objective, and this alliance will provide thought leadership and world-class offerings to fully support NSA's mission needs."
