MAY 30 ? Keane Inc. of Boston has been picked to be a "source of supply" for the state of Tennessee as it outsources the information technology positions in its Department of Finance and Administration.

There is no monetary value attached to the designation at this time, a Keane spokeswoman said.

Being picked as a source of supply means that Keane is pre-qualified to bid on contracts as the department begins outsourcing position. Keane expects several hundred IT positions to be outsourced by the state to the private sector.

Keane has opened a satellite office outside of Nashville, Tenn., to pursue the opportunity.

"Government agencies are recognizing that innovative use of technology can greatly streamline processes, lower costs and improve services," said Gil Betz, a managing director for Keane.

Keane is a $1 billion a year company that provides IT consulting, electronic business solutions, applications development and outsourcing services.
