New York State Taps H-P for Direct Purchase Deal

MAY 18 ? Hewlett-Packard Co. has won a contract from the state of New York that allows agencies there to buy computer products directly from the company online instead of through a company reseller.


Under terms of the MicroComputer Systems Hewlett-Packard Contract, non-agencies also can purchase products online from the company or from Hewlett-Packard resellers. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.


Hewlett-Packard resellers selected to assist in providing the products to New York are: CompuCom Systems, GE Capital IT Solutions, Information Decisions and Meridian Technology Group.


The deal enables purchasers authorized by the state of New York to buy products such as desktop computers, net servers, personal computing accessories, networking products and mass storage products. Also, the contract provides for access to comprehensive HP technical support services.


"We feel we have selected very strong regional and statewide resellers to act on our behalf and look forward to a mutually successful contract experience for both the state of New York and Hewlett-Packard," said Steve Young, state and local district manager of computer products for Hewlett-Packard's Public-Sector Organization.


Hewlett-Packard has designed a Web site for the state of New York that lists company products and services, contains a price list and a link to the Office of General Services' Web site and offers search capabilities.


HP's Public Sector Organization is responsible for providing computer and peripheral products to federal government, state and local government, and education customers.


Overall, the company has about 85,000 employees worldwide and total revenue of $42.4 billion in its fiscal 1999.
