Halifax Wins S.C. Internet Security Deal

MAY 15 - Halifax Corp. of Alexandria, Va., announced May 15 that its information technology services
division has won a three-year contract to provide Internet security software and products for South Carolina state agencies. Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.

"This contract represents an opportunity to significantly expand our IT services focus in the southeast region as we deliver products and services to a variety of South Carolina state agencies," said Robert Santmyer, vice president and general manager of Halifax's IT services division in Richmond, Va.


The contract gives all South Carolina agencies an opportunity to buy from Halifax Internet firewall services, such as Check Point, said Charles McNew, president and chief executive officer of Halifax. McNew said he thought the contract would open doors for the company and help develop more IT business within South Carolina.


Company officials said the company had changed its focus in the last 12 to 18 months by targeting higher-end technical businesses instead of those less reliant on technology. The company provides IT services to government and commercial customers.

Halifax Corp. had $81.8 million in 1999 revenue and has 650 employees.
